Goodman, together with Villeneuve-Saint-Georges city, shape the future of the former Signify distribution centre

On Wednesday 6th September, the elected representatives of Villeneuve-Saint-Georges toured the site of the former Signify distribution centre, to observe the successful circular deconstruction project led by Goodman. This exclusive visit marks the beginning of a new chapter for the future regeneration of the site, which is taking shape in close collaboration with local officials, aiming to define the future of this economic hub.

Goodman is working to apply key sustainable design principles and techniques to this exciting new project, starting with circular deconstruction and brownfield regeneration .

Since 2019, Goodman has been focusing on the redevelopment of industrial brownfields to develop professional, logistics, industrial, and digital real estate projects, thus avoiding land artificialisation. These sites also provide the opportunity to design with circularity in mind right from the start, revitalising under-utilised properties and sites into modern, and efficient properties and places.

Cleaning the past thanks to a circular deconstruction

In October 2022, Goodman embarked on the circular deconstruction of the former Signify logistics site in Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, with the ambitious goal of recovering 100% of the waste.

Over the course of the nine-month project, the building was carefully dismantled – rather than demolished – with materials separated for reuse from those destined for recycling. It was a massive collective effort, with 38 companies, associations, and cooperatives, involving 120 people, contributing to achieving a waste recovery rate of over 99%. This result goes well beyond the regulatory rate of 70% in France, enables the recycle and reuse finite materials, reducing waste to landfill and upfront embodied carbon during construction.

Shaping the future, a public private partnership

The municipality and Goodman have established a working group to jointly determine the future of the site's redevelopment into a dynamic and attractive economic hub, fostering the creation of numerous jobs. This collaboration between Villeneuve-Saint-Georges and Goodman demonstrates a shared commitment to an environmentally friendly urban recycling policy. The working group is due to report its findings by the end of the year.
